Last month, we asked our community if they had any top tips to share with newcomers and the response we got was brilliant. Many of you have developed a deep understanding of Blades of Fire in such a short space of time, which in itself, is very impressive, and we’re so happy many of you are open to sharing your advice with others. We want nothing more than to build a positively engaged community and it’s moments like this when we realise we’re on the right track. A big thank you to everyone that took the time get involved in our latest community blog. Hopefully, if you’re new around here, you’ll learn a thing or two! Let’s get started.<\/p>\n

TOP TIPS FOR NEWCOMERS<\/strong><\/p>\n

High armour penetration and high durability cancels out high sharpening cost! This is because you won’t need to sharpen as often and when you do, you’ll have plenty of durability to spare.<\/em><\/p>\n

– TamerDigital<\/p>\n

Forge different weapon types to benefit from the seneschal statues you find. The number of upgrades for each weapon is limited, so you’ll need new weapons of the same family as you find more statues.<\/p>\n

Explore every nook and cranny. There are many hidden secrets, including upgrades to health and stamina, that can be found through exploration.<\/p>\n

Pay attention to cutscenes and dialogue. Many tips about combat or where to go next are found in the interactions with the NPCs in the game.<\/p>\n

Choose the right weapon for the situation. Ideally, always use a weapon with green enemy outline (right damage type and penetration). Conserve your best weapon for tougher enemies.<\/p>\n

Do not recycle your weapons, offer them to Glinda instead for better rewards the more you’ve used a weapon.<\/p>\n

When forging, try to make the columns match the white line. Start from the left and work your way right.<\/p>\n

All choices during forging impact the final weapon, both in stats and looks. Nothing is cosmetic only. Do not be afraid to experiment.<\/p>\n

Read Adso’s notes. He tells you when new notes are available. They contain great tips, especially about the enemies and bosses you encounter.<\/em><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get stuck looking how to access some areas. Some you have to just progress to get to!<\/em><\/p>\n

Don’t forget you can change your weapon damage type if the weapon has more then one available.<\/p>\n

Don’t know where to go after a cutscene? Read the loading screens for tips or use the objective marker option in start menu.<\/p>\n

Don’t worry about finding every hidden secret or item your first time through an area, you can easy revisit and with better knowledge of the enemies, and better weapons later.<\/p>\n

If forging weapons feels a bit intimidating or off, give it time. With doing it and experimenting with it, you will learn the intricacies of it more then you realize to where you actually start to feel like your learning how to FORGE (in the game at least)<\/p>\n

Travel to prior areas in order to collect additional resources if needed.<\/p>\n

Read the tips your companion documents on enemies in the bestiary, they can show weaknesses and tips on how to overcome them.<\/em><\/p>\n

It’s worth pointing out your progress from the demo will carry over to the main game. I have played every demo imagined out there and stuff like this rarely ever happens. For those that are worried, don’t, because your progression will carry over to the full game!<\/em><\/p>\n

Don’t panic if you get surrounded by hordes of smaller enemies, especially in Steel mode. Review what you know of whichever enemy type it is and make sure you have weaponry that fits both the enemy density and the arena size.<\/p>\n

Don’t always rely on a choke point to make large groups easier. If you have, say, a long polearm and try a horizontal swing right in a doorway, you’re just going to bounce off a wall and (likely) take a hit! Use vertical strikes\/pokes to make a gap, move in and defend a bit to gain full stamina, and do a few quick, non-charged horizontals to gain breathing room.<\/p>\n

Additionally, teach yourself to avoid panic rolling. It burns through stamina and can prevent a lot of the best counterplay you might manage against more active foes. Full rolls have their uses, especially when you’re facing down attacks that can’t be blocked reliably and are hard to quick dodge, but you don’t want to do a bunch of full rolls and find yourself doing the world’s slowest swing afterwards because you bottomed out on stamina.<\/em><\/p>\n

For me upgrading to the spear early made a big difference! I switch between it and the hammer depending on the fight – spear for fast enemies, hammer for breaking guards. Swapping weapons mid-fight has saved me more than once!<\/em><\/p>\n

Master your craft in order to master your weapon!<\/em><\/p>\n

Make sure you’re reading the tooltips during forging and using all of your techniques! My first few weapons I didn’t realize how intricate the strikes could be.<\/em><\/p>\n

Remember to keep your weapons sharp and prioritize durability\/sharpening cost over only focusing on getting damage numbers as high as possible when forging a new weapon!<\/p>\n

Also don\u2019t sleep on spears.<\/em><\/p>\n
